““ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”” Mark 9:23 NIV
This is one of those verses I wish would’ve come with a “fine print” at the bottom. I mean, I’ve heard people using/misusing/abusing this text more times that I can count and many times it’s used to prey on the disenfranchised.
It goes like this, if you believe everything is possible right? Okay, then if we get sick we didn’t believe enough. If we are poor we don’t believe enough. If our relationship/marriage collapses is because we don’t believe enough. Do you see the logic here? It makes sense.
However let’s keep pushing it then. One could make the argument Jesus didn’t believe enough because he “couldn’t” get out of getting crucified at age 33. Or God doesn’t believe enough because if he did then there wouldn’t be evil in this world. Right? I don’t think so.
If we believe, like Jesus and many other men and women, everything is possible. However if we believe to their level our asking and level of peace/contentment our “everything” would be different than the everything I want most of the time, more of me. My hunch is that if we are tapping that level of believing we will be more in line with “less of me, more of you God”.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
