“And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’ ” The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.” Mark 11:17-18 NIV
The religious people were offended when Jesus made various claims, but they turned criminal when their source of income was threatened.
Up until this point it was differences of opinions, scandalous claims, magical powers and insubordination. However this was when it all changed. This is when Jesus’ existence became a threat to their way of life.
When circumstances touches our wallets, our savings, our earnings we too show our true colors. Everything is good and dandy until we know we might go under by the end of the month, when we lose businesses or when we are let go. This brings our fight, free, or freeze (sometimes faint) reaction from us.
How about faith? Could we also respond with faith? My tendency when my pocket is threatened is to feel bummed out and then fight frantically. Very rarely is give thanks to God for everything (when I lose money) and instead I’m an expert at taking things personal and boil with anger on the inside.
Let us take our daily bread, everyday, whatever it might be. Yes, let us be diligent, but knowing our God has been, is, and always will be faithful to us. Let us respond with faith.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
