“Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” Mark 4:18-19 NIV
As I was reading today’s portion of the Bible this was not the passage I thought I was going to land on. In fact I already had another passage underlined, but this particular passage just grabbed my attention. Perhaps because I can see myself in it.
I am like those “others” who are fortunate to “hear the word” on a regular basis. However, and here’s the clincher, the worries of life (strike 1), the deceitfulness of wealth (strike 2), and the desire for other things (strike 3 punch out!) is a deadly three punch combo to me.
That last one, the “desire for other things” is one of my many Achilles heels. Every time I desire more, either more things or more of the things I already have, I put myself in a weak spot. Nobody’s fault but my own.
Everyday I must force my will to desire God and only God. When I do so I’m at my freest. When I do not I’m at my weakest. Let us fix our eyes upon God today.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
