“In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.” Acts 6:1 NIV
A bunch of these people have seen Jesus face to face. Some even have walked, literally walked with Jesus, and still you have a controversy. This controversy revolved around race, privileges, and food.
Everywhere I go (I’ve been to 44 countries) I see similar issues with varying degrees of course. However we seem to consistently find ways to marginalize and take advantage of each other. There’s no perfect society because there are no perfect people. Even the church has its ugly parts.
What we do is go to our faith and do the best we can. That’s what the apostles did back then and that’s what we most do now as well. In our current climate here in the USA where scarcity of employment is real and racial tensions have come front and center, I believe we must go to God and serve/love/find ways to alleviate societal pain.
Personally I’ve been super focused on answering that call by raising financially independent, morally grounded, and strong family/faith values daughters. I also do other things but my biggest pride, my treasure is inside my own house.
Let us go to God and answer today’scall to the best of our ability.
