“Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.””
John 8:10-11 NIV
Maaan... no one likes being condemned. Most of the time we face condemnation from others, penal systems, society, and family members. Sometimes we receive condemnation from ourselves. We just can’t let ourselves off the hook.
Jesus gives us a clue on what is it that really condemn us and trap us: our sinful actions.
Yes, people were trying to condemn this woman but when the truth was spoken they all realized they too have dirt so one by one they left. Then it was Jesus’ turn to condemn, and he passed. Not because there’s sin in Him but because it doesn’t seem to be a capricious game of picking and choosing who gets condemn and who doesn’t. Instead it seems our own ACTIONS come with a side of entrapping, condemnation, and death.
Let us stay away from growing acts and environments of sin in our lives. Ultimately it is precisely this that ends up dooming us.
