““The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”” Mark 12:29-31 NIV
If you were to press me to choose the most consistent message throughout the Bible I’d have to say this is it: Love God + Love People. This would be the WHAT of the Bible in my opinion.
If you were to press me and ask me for a HOW... I’d probably say through surrendering our will to God. In New Testament language, by repenting and accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
The what, the how, and the New Testament language are valid and important. However I believe there’s a hierarchy. First comes the WHAT (this will get people going and in turn show how incapable we are to carry this out), then comes the HOW, and then comes the cornerstone Jesus.
More often than not we start with the 3rd step and this is bound to create tension. Keep in mind Jesus only creates tension with the self-righteous crew, never with the common you and I. Quite the opposite, he was welcomed by sinners.
Let us not be jerks and alienate people instead of bringing them the love we can offer even if they disagree with our Jesus.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
