““What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them. “Crucify him!” they shouted. “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”” Mark 15:12-14 NIV
I’ve never seen Pontius Pilate and thought to myself, this could be me. However today we see how someone who could’ve put a solid stop to this whole none sense simply kept dragging his feet until was too late. That’s a play right out of my own playbook.
It is clear Pilate didn’t think Jesus was a criminal and certainly pitting him a death sentence was a overkill (no pun intended). However he kept playing the crowd, asking rhetorical questions, wanting to be liked, and next thing he knew he was too deep in and had to follow through... crucify Jesus.
Man... I can’t even count the times I’ve allowed a sin to linger around far too long that it needed to be. I think I’m in full control and toe the line while feeling empowered, almost masterful. And the end is always the same. I end up saying/doing stuff I didn’t really want to in the first place.
Let us not toy around with sin. However small as it might appear at the moment, every sin has the power to land us in a point of no return.
