“You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.” Mark 13:9
What an elevator pitch! Isn’t Jesus suppose to up sale his disciples specially knowing his death is near? I if there’s a time to ease expectations and lock in loyalty this is it. However the message seems tone deaf, anticlimactic.
You know what’s even more puzzling? The fact that none of the disciples took off and left him. Yes, Judas, but that’s another story. If I’d be one of those around when Jesus said this I’d probably start pitching my tent elsewhere. Who wants to be arrested, be flogged, and face many trials and tribulations? Not me.
Unless they were unto something I’m missing out: intimacy with God. Perhaps trials and tribulations were nothing in comparison with having one to one intimacy with the creator of the world. Perhaps they were the ones really grounded and I’m just here still looking after myself.
Let us allow God to examine our hearts and our intentions. Let us continually lean toward Jesus, his love and sustenance.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
