“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” Acts 4:31 NIV
This past Wednesday someone told me after Chapel that one of his best memories was visiting African American churches as part of Teen Challenge. He shared he saw people ‘getting down with the Lord’ and ‘really feeling it’ like nothing he has seen before.
Much like him I’d say my top spiritual gatherings are from my years living in Latin America. What do these 2 experiences have in common? Struggle. The black church my friend was sharing about was located in a very poor area and the churches I visited in the Dominican Republic had glaring financial/social/public needs.
What happens when we pair up our NEED with communal PRAYER? The Holy Spirit gives us a special filling. Why do I feel many times I come out ‘empty’ from attending churches here in the USA? Because most of my needs are met and I’m usually disconnected from my pain.
Let us approach God with thirst. Let us never lose sight of our true reality.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
