“Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.” Acts 3:6-7 NIV
Did you catch that? Peter started getting the man on his feet and the miracle happened as he was getting up. The verse literally says they man’s feet and ankles became strong’ but this happened not when the man listened to Peter’s words, but as he was in the process of getting up.
The miracle took place in the process, as the man accepted the help of those around him, after the man recognized he couldn’t do it on his own. The miracle takes place in an environment of humbleness, community, and faith.
Today we are told by God that we are free. We are free from acting out of our emotions, free from playing victim, free from needing anything/anyone to fill our hearts. We already have each other to lift us up. The missing link is if a) we are willing to accept we are unable to manufacture our own miracles and b) our decisiveness to walk into the light by faith.
Let us start getting up, with the assistance of others, believing God has called us to freedom.
