“On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you?” John 6:60-61 NIV
John chapter 6 is a hard chapter to swallow (no pun intended). Jesus is talking about consuming his flesh and blood and this was just plain weird and frankly disgusting to even think about, specially for the original audience back 2000 ago.
Now, we can contextualize that teaching but the reality is that following God isn’t short of outlandish teachings that in all honestly many times I can’t really explain nor make sense out them. Sometimes God seems harsh, some other times it seems we can ‘change’ God, some other times God seems inconsistent to me.
I believe it is okay to not understand God. After all if we understand everything either WE are God or God is mortal. It is okay to not have it all figured it out. Living by faith is by definition a ‘hard teaching’ because it isn’t living by ‘sight’ after all.
Let us get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Let us embrace all the teaching even those we have a hard time digesting.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
