““ ‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.”
Luke 15:31 NIV
The older son was outraged his father has never done XYZ for him and was letting his father have it. Much like he did with the younger son, the father went out and met the older son as he was returning home... only this time the exchange wasn’t filled with appreciation but with entitlement.
The older son’s charge could’ve been summarized as ‘you OWE me’. The father’s response could’ve been summarized as ‘you HAVE me’. This however wasn’t enough for the older brother. Having his father never ‘felt’ enough for the older brother even though that’s all the younger brother ever wanted.
We also have God with us, and more often than not I too fall into the trap of negotiating/bargaining with God for what I feel he owes me. That’s crazy when I put it in writing. In reality I owe him everything, and not the other way around.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
