“He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.” Luke 24:44-45 NIV
One of the most popular concepts within AA/NA culture is the principle of open mindedness. We encourage our clients to be open minded and to consider things in a different way. In my case as the spiritual director of a rehab center I say this hoping they’d consider God into their lives and experience a spiritual awakening.
Welp, today we see who’s the one who actually opens that awareness, God himself. In this passage we see Jesus declaring he was ‘opening their minds so they could understand’. In other words open mindedness is a gift and it comes from God.
What can we do to be open minded? From the text we see the disciples were in community, not isolation, and they were in active learning mode by asking questions. In other words they were at the right place, with the right people and the right attitude.
Let us learn from the disciples today and give thanks to God for yet another gift bestowed upon us: open mindedness.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
