“Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.” Acts 2:5-6 NIV
I’ve always heard about the reaction the crowd had when the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit. Some were amazed, but some quickly assumes the disciples were drunk. What I missed from the story is that those people who had a mixed-bag reaction were ‘God-fearing Jews from every nation’.
These weren’t the Pharisees that initiated the crucifixion of Jesus nor Roman soldiers that executed Jesus. These people weren’t enemies, but allies. Yet these were the first ones to pass judgement on the fresh work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the disciples.
We shouldn’t be discouraged when God does something special in our lives and some of our friends and allies misunderstand us and pass judgement on us. Progress can be intimidating to others and as we will see tomorrow, our part is to be 1 with God and share this unity with others.
Let us seek opportunities to be together as the disciples were. Let us stay open for God to do something special in our lives. Let us not expect everyone to get it right off the bat.
