“When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.” John 19:26-27 NIV
This was a moment of agony and pain. In this moment Jesus made sure his mother was taken care of. This was in keeping with the 5th Commandment, ‘honor your father and your mother’ but it also came from a place of love.
Those of us fortunate enough to have our parents alive ought to honor them. In my case my parents got divorced when I was a kid and due to alcohol/abuse my relationship with my father needed the boundary of distance, but still I ought to honor his name and pray for him. My mom and I talk multiple times a day and she’s my friend, confidant, partner, and biggest supporter.
My relationship with my parents couldn’t be any different and yet I ought to honor them both. Jesus did it while experiencing deep agony, and that’s enough for us to follow his example today.
If I could give you a hug, hi5, or fist bump from here I definitely would. As long as you don't mind a couple typos here and there, you're MOST welcome to check in, drop a comment here and there, and make yourself at home.
